Zaha Hadid Architects designed a metro station named after King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia. The Riyadh Development Authority has commissioned Zaha Hadid Architects to build the new King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) metro station in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to serve its rapidly expanding population of more than five million. Construction started in 2014 and will be opened in 2023.
The KAFD metro station, with six platforms over four public floors and two levels of underground parking, was integrated into the urban framework of the financial district, defining the Qatar Mobile Number List functional requirements of a multi-modal transport hub and the future vision of the district. The project chose a parametric style rather than a simple form, emphasizing how this planning would affect the public space.
With an area of 20,434 square meters, the King Abdullah Financial District Metro Station will be located in the middle of the road, sky bridge, and subway lines, and these will be researched and planned in order to clearly define the pedestrian path inside the building, optimize the internal circulation, and avoid congestion. The dynamic movement of the exterior of the building is closely related to the interior space.
The design of the facade reduces solar energy and the style defines the style of modern architecture. Similar to the patterns created by the desert wind in the sand dunes that form complex natural formations.
King Abdullah has ordered the completion of the new Riyadh metro building within four years. Riyadh Governor Prince Khaled bin Bander said the project is progressing according to plan, and the Riyadh Urban Development Authority has released details of the city's public transport plan, which includes six metro lines that will be the backbone of the city's public transport.
